Altan Khalis Association is a non-governmental organization that promotes art house cinema in Mongolia. Founded in 2009, Altan Khalis Association has cultivated an open-minded and diverse cinematic landscape. We help foster the curiosity and literacy of a new generation of Mongolian moviegoers who crave an alternative cinematic experience to what mainstream movies have to offer. We achieve this through our flagship program, Dreamers’ Day. It is a weekly art house matinee that showcases the best of art house cinema from around the world, both classic and contemporary, and provides a means for Mongolian audiences to stay connected to the wider world of film. Apart from nurturing an audience for alternative cinema, we create a breeding ground for independent filmmaking. As the first generation of post-Communist era Mongolians come of age, there is a reinvigorated energy to build a new cultural and national identity. Through our Golden Reel International Underground Film Festival in 2013-2016, we helped uncover new talent and empower young filmmakers, both in Mongolia and globally, to find their voices. Now, starting in the year of 2017, we are organizing Altan Khalis Independent Film Festival (AKIFF).
